Paper Man

Amy's Story

Whoosh! The last paper plane landed in the deserted alley way, the alley way where there were over one hundred paper planes. All of which had been made and thrown by one man called Oliver to get the attention of a lady named Lara that he had fallen in love with at the train station. He had seen her in the building on the opposite side of the road while he was in his office at work a week later.
The day after Oliver had seen Lara at work he unhappily went back to his office at 6:00am to start work again but little did he know that something was going on behind his back that he would have been pleased know about…
A strong gust of wind blew past the alley way that was full of paper planes. All of the planes moved around a little but the plane with Lara’s lip print on was taken away in the wind!
Lara got up at 8:00am to go to work when she realised that she had left her phone in the apartment she was in yesterday. She got into her car and drove off. Once she’d arrived she quickly got out of her car and ran through the hallway to the lift where she zoomed up to floor 25. After the lift doors opened Lara walked out then sprinted down another hallway to room 107 to get her phone. She saw Oliver sitting by the window and tried to get his attention, but he was to sad to notice and thought that the voice calling his name was just his imagination so he didn’t look up.  Then she went back down to the car park and drove away.
The paper plane with Lara’s lip print on was taken to the other side of the city in the wind with lots of stops when the wind died down. Then all the way back to Oliver who just threw it out of the window carelessly thinking that he would never see Lara again. The paper plane landed on the ground then bounced back up again when the wind got stronger and carried on its journey to Lara’s house.
After around five days the paper plane finally landed on the window sill of Lara’s house. She walked into her living room with her book, completely unaware of the paper plane on her window. Lara placed her cup of tea on the table next to where the paper plane was and sat down in her favourite arm chair to read her book. Just as she was about to pick up her cup of tea she noticed the paper plane sitting on her window sill. She opened it up and recognised it immediately. It was the piece of paper with her lip print on from that day at the train station. It had Oliver’s address on it so she quickly put down her book, got into her car and drove to Oliver’s house.
Unlike Lara, Oliver wasn’t happy at all. He was sad and a bit angry that he didn’t get Lara’s attention and thought that he would never see her again. Then there was a knock at the door. He trudged towards the door and asked who it was. There was no answer but just as he started to walk away Lara answered. He quickly straightened his shirt and opened the door. Lara stood there beaming with joy that she had finally found him. Then she bounded towards him and gave him a big hug.
Months later they got married and were as happy as they ever were and as happy as they ever will be.

Kuon's Story

The man had his head in his hand, sad and ashamed. He had met her twice and had lost her twice because of his foolishness. He wondered what she was doing. Was she thinking of him? It was like a child wanting to have something but is told that he can’t have it. But when you are told you can’t have it, you want it more.

The woman was walking down the road staring down at her feet. She wondered what the man she had met was doing and what he was feeling. Happy, sad or maybe even depressed? She also did miss the man since he was funny and interesting.

Just as she walked past an alley she caught a glimpse of rose red. She saw mountains of paper airplanes, but that wasn’t what caught her eye it was just one paper airplane with a red lipstick kiss mark. The memory of her meeting the man at the station flashed back in her brain. Even if it was coincidence or deliberate, she felt it like a sign or a flare. She traced back the paper airplanes to find him. If this was what he did, that meant that he felt the same for her so she can tell him what she felt for him, she thought.

The man was surprised when he saw the woman, he was sure he had lost, walking into his office causing the workers to fall silent. The only times he had met her was by coincidence but this time she was searching specifically for him. The man  saw the happy emotion on her face and smiled back.

Julianne's Story

Sarah loved dolls. They were her favourite toys, she loved collecting them from all over the world. On that same day, she was searching for even more dolls. Walking down the street, she saw a board where many children had written their names. As Sarah reached for the chalk, her older sister said annoyingly,
“We came here to get dolls. NOt write our names on the board so let’s not waste time,” dropping the chalk, Sarah caught sight of a doll store out of the corner of her eye. Angry that it was closed, she scrunched up some snow, transforming it into a well-made snowball that she threw at the door with all her might as she turned away. Slowly, the door gave away. Noticing the creak from the door, she spun around and ran inside; with her sister waiting at the door. Asking herself which one to choose, she finally decided to take them all.
As she stepped out of the shop, they starting fidgeting in her hands. Dropping them into a puddle, they slowly became bigger and bigger as Sarah stared in awe. Soon they were the size of children and were also able to move freely. They started running away calling out names as if they were on a wild chase. Sarah had saved the lives of many children, but why hadn’t she become a doll?
Sarah strode down the street, excited about her adventure. She knew that saving others was an experience worth treasuring although it might not end as you always wanted it to. OUt of all the people who had left, one had stayed. That was Alma.
“Why hadn’t I been turned into a doll Alma?” Sarah questioned her.
“That was because the magic only happens if you touch the doll, and the door has to close behind you. YOu also have to probably write your name on the board because that was when my doll appeared. That’s why you hadn’t been trapped,” Alma answered politely.
“I was stubborn enough to have the door close behind me, and write my name on the board,” she added soberly. Sarah noticed now that if not for her sister, she would’ve been turned into a doll. Stopping her from writing her name on the board and holding the door, it was as if she knew she could’ve been turned into a doll! Hugging her sister gratefully, she whispered,
“Thank you, for saving my life.”

Ariana's Story

Marie skipped down Lonely Lane as snow danced around her beret. She had decided to go for and early morning walk to forget about the household drama. But as she glided across the pavement, she realized that she felt more lonely walking the streets of Paris than she did locked inside her bedroom.

As she wandered through alleyways and backstreets she noticed that she had taken a wrong turn at the boulangerie and was now walking on unknown territory. Interested, she kept trodding along the gravel pavement until she came a slight clearing. In front of her was a large wall covered in names of different people. As she thought it was tradition, she picked up the well-used chalk and neatly traced her name onto the board. Marie. She was admiring the art of her handwriting when she heard a click from behind her. Slowly, she turned around. Inside a well crafted storeroom was a complete duplicate of herself, but only in a doll's form. It looked as if she were looking at her own reflection and felt as if she were to be grateful for her beautiful features.

After staring at the glass for quite a while she realized the doll had suddenly vanished. Curious, she tried the gold painted door handle. No luck. The door was locked shut. Frustrated, she began to retrace her steps. Mid way, she heard a door creaking and spun around to see the door open just a crack. She swung the door open and smelt the room. It smelled of wax and incense, something you might smell when you enter a candle shop or a soap store. Taking very small baby steps, she entered the room. Broken tiles crunched beneath her feet and the smell grew stronger with every inch of the way.

Her eyes searched the the room. Dolls from all over the world somehow were placed on a shelf surrounding the room. Chinese, Japanese, Austrian, Russian, everywhere there were dolls. After scanning the entire room she spied her doll on a top shelf at the back of the room. She carefully made her way past a pair of identical twins that she felt were watching her every move. When she reached the shelf that contained her precious doll, she clambered upon a worn out sofa and reached her gloved hand high up to the top shelf. Her fingers searched the shelf until they came upon a hard rounded shape. Got it she thought as she tugged on the leg. Over the top shelf and down into her arms the doll fell, until Marie tightened her grip and jumped off the sofa. Quickly, she fled from the traumatizing workshop and out onto the street. She exhaled loudly and started to jog back the way she came. I am not going back there she thought as she became familiar with her surroundings.

Back inside the haunted storeroom, dolls were coming to life. Arms started growing, toes started wiggling and eyes blinked at lightning speed. The once plastic figures were now back to flesh and bones. They scurried out of the room and crowded the once Lonely Lane, each and every child eager to return home.

Inside the shop, the shelves were empty and the feeling of adrenalin had vanished.  There was only. One. Doll. Left. The doll of the evil owner. She had transformed herself into a living doll when the shop had first opened, and stood on a ledge right next to the door so that she was able to observe the comings and goings of the children. But one thing that she did not like was when stupid, selfish children outsmarted her. This made her want to blow up every last child on the planet and dance all night on their graves. Furious, she poured the contents of a small vile over herself. The liquid quickly drizzled down the sides of her fuscia coloured tutu, and into her small rose slippers. Immediately, she began to grow. First her arms, then her head and finally the rest of her body. Soon she was the same size as an average human. She peered outside of the workshop and onto the street. Revolting. She thought, as one of her tiny toes set foot on the gravel. Although she might be a doll, she was able to create extremely wicked ideas. So that’s, exactly what she did…

Looking forward to Year 6?

Here are some of our thoughts about the coming year in Year 6. If you are in Year 5 do you have the same worries? If you are in Year 7/8, did you have the same thoughts when you started Year 6?

Dear Mr Willis and Ms Pearce,.

Hello it's Sennon right now. Thank you for opening my email. The thing that I am most looking forward to is climbing Mt Takao because I like climbing and having freedom but also to have a challenge to help each other to get to the top.
The thing I am most scared of ( kind of) is the S.A.T. that are coming at the end of this the year because it will be the biggest and the longest tests that I have done. But I am looking forward after the tests to enjoy the fun on going to karaoke and celebrating  and things like that.
I am also really happy that Year 6 got Ipads and chromebooks. I first thought it was actually a joke but when I saw it I was amazingly happy.
Thank you for looking at my email and taking your time.

Kind Regards,

Sennon

Dear Ms. Pearce and Mr. Willis,

In Year 6, I am very excited for the Ashigara and the Mount Takao trip. I am excited to go to Mount Takao because it will be my first time hiking. Although I am excited, I am also a little bit scared that something might go wrong. As it is my first time. I also haven't gone camping before and am not very good with sleeping on the ground where there might be some bugs. If it is raining in Ashigara, what will happen? If we weren't planned to go camping, I'm sorry because I think a friend told me we were going camping but I am not so sure if I heard correctly.
I heard though that we were going to make things and that's one of my favourite things to do! When we went to Norikura last year, my friends and I won the DT competition for fastest chair lift. We also won the Poem Competition for the best acting group reciting a poem. Please mind that I tend to brag a little sometimes. My last year's teacher told me I babble. My English teacher anyway.

Regards,
Julianne

Dear Mr. Willis and Ms. Pearce

Hello, how are you? I am fine.

I would like to bring under your notice that I am very excited for an amazing Y6 ahead. I would like to highlight a few thing that I cannot wait for.
Firstly, I am very ecstatic for the Y6 Ashigara residential, from what I know it will be a breathtaking experience.
Secondly, I can hardly wait for World War 2 day, it seems to be a fun filled day in the life of the unfortunate people experiencing the war.
Lastly, my excitement for the karaoke party is phenomenal, it will be a super enjoyable experience.

I would also like to say I am a little bit worried for the SATs even though I know you will prepare us the best you can.

With Regards,
Yash

Dear Mr.Willis and Ms.Pearce,

I cannot believe I am already in my fourth year at BST.This will be my final year so I would like to make it the most memorable. When I join a new class, I always feel half-nervous and half-happy, but strangely, in this class I did not.I felt as if I was used to being in this class.

There are things I look forward to and do not.The thing I most look forward to is Mt.Takao.This is because unlike Ashigara(which I also look forward to) ,Mt.Takao is an independent activity and I will be very proud if I manage to reach the top.Secondly, I am also looking for Ashigara because it is 4 whole days!Surely I could make good memories when collaborating with friends and learning new things.

The only thing I do not look forward for is the leavers assembly. I hate dancing, and in leavers assembly you dance(a LOT).

Overall, I think year 6 will be a fun, exciting year.

kind regards,
Benjamin

The first of many!

Welcome everyone to the very first blog Post for Year 6R. Please be aware that although we do have a class blog, we will also have individual blog which will be linked to this post (please check the side bar of the blog for links to our individual blogs).

In our very first Post, we are going to provide you with advice on general blogging etiquette and rules associated with this blog and other blogs connected to 6R. So, without any further interruption, please take a look at some of our blogging guidelines. Please don't worry about forgetting these rules as they have been copied onto one of the pages of this blog.

The following guidelines are taken from an edublog recommended blog site called Mr Salsich's third grade explorations in learning

Blog Guidelines

The class blog is a way for us to share our ideas and our learning with other people. Sharing our learning means that it is very important that you/we understand how to use the blog and the internet in a secure way.
The following guidelines have been established to ensure the safety of our students when blogging. The guidelines are also reminders of how to use the blog to improve writing and keyboarding skills.

  1. Students work will only be identified by first names or initials. All comments should have first names or initials only.
  2. Parents who leave comments are asked not to use last names either. (Please post comments as “Tommy’s mum” or “Meg’s grandfather”, etc.)
  3. All comments submitted have to be approved by Mr Willis/the student bloggers before they are included on the blog(s).
  4. Inappropriate or overly-informal writing will not be allowed.
  5. Please proof-read your comments carefully.
  6. In nearly all cases only Mr Willis or the student bloggers have access to post things on this/their blogs. An exception to this might be when another student/teacher/guest blogger is invited to submit a post (in draft form) to Mr Willis/the student blogger. Mr Willis/the student blogger will then decide if the post is appropriate for the blog.
  7. Always write in full sentences and words – no “text talk” please!
