Mining for school ideas
In one of our recent maths activities, we spent some time using length, area and volume to create our own schools (see previous post). After we had completed our final schools, one of our enterprising young mathematical architects went home and created a Minecraft version of their group's final school. Well done Erika! This is awesome!
A little bit of Manga action!
Check out some top quality slow motion manga sketching of eyes and mouths.

Here comes our first Nory!
I guess you are wondering what a Nory is. Well, it's actually a Numeracy Story based on a particular calculation. Please read this, then decide what the original calculation might have been.
The Importance of Being Bigger
One fine summers day , 3 was walking down the street with her brothers 5 and 7 .
Suddenly the malicious face of 12 appeared .
"Hey, you common lot," he grinned .
"Leave us alone 12," 7 squeaked , trying not to be scared by such a big number.
" You know what you are ? You are a garden variety number!" 12 responded with a laugh .
"No we are NOT ," 3 piped ,"We are more special than YOU anyway!" "You ! Why you don't even have a tens column," 12 smirked before slipping away .7 , 5 and 3 tried not to be to depressed but they couldn't help it .
"At least we are visiting Granny and Grandpa next ," 5 consoled .
After arriving at their grandparents house , they explained the situation to Granny Multi (short for multiplication ) , Grandpa Addy (addition) and Neighbor Bracky (brackets) who was staying for tea . Granny Multi tried to convince 7,5 and 3 how they were incredibly special, being three of the very rare prime numbers however they remainder sad and depressed .

Granny Multi tried to convince 7,5 and 3 how they were incredibly special, being three of the very rare prime numbers however they remainder sad and depressed .
"Why not do some number magic to make them bigger." Neighbor Bracky suggested .
" Good idea , " Grandpa Addy commented " Let's do it !" So Grandpa Addy sat down in a circle with Granny Multi and neighbor Bracky . They each end took a little bit of powder out of their bright colored bags and began to chant .
When they finished 7 , 5 and 3 looked up to find they had become one huge number , 36 ! With the adults magic they had made the calculation 3 x (7 + 5) to equal that huge 36 . Now they had a whole tens column and were 3 times the size of 12! They were a big number, never to be teased again and they were incredibly proud of their achievement .
